Obesity and its Causes

Allow me to detail this topic for you as this article is hopefully exactly what you have been looking for.
Anyone with a BMI (body mass index) over 30kg/m*m is considered to be obese. If you have a BMI between 25 and 30, you are considered overweight, but not obese. While there are 45 million Americans that fit into the obese category, it is not something that is limited of just adults anymore. Children as young as two have been diagnosed as being obese. So what are the causes of obesity?
Obesity is caused in large due to eating more and exercising less. While there are some people that can eat as much as they want and still remain thin, there are others that just look at food and seem to pack on the pounds.
Metabolism- The rate of your metabolism, whether it‘s fast or slow, has a lot to do with the amount of weight you maintain.
Genetics- Genetics is another thing that causes obesity. If you’re grandparents and parents were overweight or obese, it is more than likely that you carry that gene and are predisposed to obesity.
Physiological- Stress and depression in your life can result in weight gain.
Sociocultural- Your social habits and surroundings can greatly influence your weight. If your life style is mainly eating and drinking, those extra pounds can be part of the package.
Sedentary Lifestyle- Not having a steady diet of exercise is your life can result in weight gain. Even though it has been proven how much you can benefit from exercise, there are more than 60 percent of Americans that do not get enough exercise to benefit them. It is a known fact that as you get older, for one reason or another, exercise seems to be the last thing on your “to do” list. Or it’s lucky to even be on your list at all.
Neuroendocrines- Ailments that cause obesity. Obesity originating in the hypothalamus, Cushing Illness (high levels of cortisol), Policystic ovary syndrome, Growth hormone deficiency, and Hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroids).
Drugs- Use of prescription drugs such as anti-depressants, steroids, and other medications are contributing factors to weight gain.
High Calories- Taking in more calories that your body needs has been known to pack on the pounds.
Healthy Eating- The fast life filled with fast food restaurants has given us easy access to a quick bite, resulting in poor eating habits, is a large contributor to the increase in weight gain resulting in obesity. Foods that are high in fat and easily accessible don’t help either.
Younger Generation- Because there are so many more adults that are overweight, the disease of obesity is now being passed down to the younger generation. There are more than 60% of young children fighting the battle of the bulge. Children learn by example, so they are more than likely to eat what or how their parents eat.
While some people are trying to change their poor eating habits in to healthier ones, there still is a large gap between whose eating the recommended dietary amounts and what is actually being eaten.
