Fast Food Causes Obesity, It’s a Major Contributor

The following paper is meant to be a guide for all our readers, hopefully you too.

It has been said that one of the number one contributors to obesity is the large consumption of fast foods in America today. Where ever you look you can find a fast food restaurant. And that’s exactly what the fast food business is all about. It’s there for your total convenience, at almost any time of the day or night. Fast foods cause obesity, or at the least they are a major contributor.

What most people seem to forget is that fast food is extremely high in calories and by the time you feel full, you’ve already exceeded your calorie limit. It is the total intention of the fast food industry to encourage over eating. Not only with convenience, but with super-sizing as well, you get more for your buck, or value menus. Not only is it cheap to eat fast foods, but its quick way to get a filling meal if you’re in a hurry.

Fast foods are considered high calorie density foods, the amount of calories compared to its weight; this causes confusion in your appetite control, which allows you to eat more than is necessary. In other words you can consume a lot more food and calories than you really need in one meal. Most fast food meals have an energy density that is 150 percent higher than a traditional meal.

Another problem is that fast foods are not just limited to restaurants anymore. You can find fast foods at local supermarkets, convenience stores, local businesses, schools, and even in hospitals. Everywhere you turn you can find something that’s fast and easy to munch on to suit your taste buds.

Not only are fast foods high in fat, they are less likely to provide the adequate nutrition that is needed to sustain a healthy diet. Where once we ate a piece of fruit for a snack has somehow been replaced by candy bars or cookies as our food of choice.

The fast food epidemic has not only affected adults but children as well. Children at a very young age are being introduced to the mighty world of fast foods. French fries, hamburgers, soda’s, shakes, and other fast foods become a weekly part of the nutritional regime. The fast foods that children consume are filled with high calories, fat, sugar, and bad carbohydrates, all things that contribute to childhood obesity.

Because of the beating fast food restaurants have taken they are now adding items to their menu’s that include health choices for the consumer, such as salads, hamburgers without buns, and fruits included in the kids meals. While the intent is there, it is up to the consumer to make the right choice in food consumption when eating at a fast food restaurant.

But the real problem is that most Americans love those greasy hamburgers and French fries, that’s what fast food is all about. So, if you planning on eating right or having trouble sticking to your diet, your best bet may be to avoid those fast food restaurants all together.
